Mr. George Albert McKenney, 89, of Chatsworth passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014 at his home.
George is preceded in death by his parents Albert McKenney and Helen Faas McKenney Mason, and his siblings Eleanor Buker, Martha Sweet, Donald McKenney, Reginald McKenney and his sons Robert McKenney and Mark McKenney. He served in the Navy as Apprentice Seaman for 1 1/2 years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. George and his wonderful wife Rose, whom he loved dearly, served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints together. They had the opportunity to serve many church missions around the United States, serving in many of the church temples and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. He loved all whom he came in contact with and they loved him in return. He is a life time member of Sebasticook Lodge of Newport, Maine and a member of the American Legion Post 112 of Dalton. George was in business for 50-60 years doing auto repairs, beauty shop heating, oil Hudson International, snow mobiles, garden equipment, motor cycles, swimming pools, drilled wells, mobile homes, whirlpool bath, hot tubs, wood burning boilers, super market, tractor trailer, and therapeutic magnets frequency generators. He and Rose are licensed pilots and they love to fly.
George is survived by his loving wife of 65 years and 3 months, Rose Simon McKenney of Chatsworth; children, Gordon (Evelyn) McKenney of New Port, Maine, Gene (Sung Hwa) McKenney of Holden, Maine, Dale (Angela) McKenney of New Port, Maine, Paul (Lori) McKenney of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Georgianna McKenney of New Port, Maine, and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews; sister-in-law and brother-in-laws, Norma Irene Marshall, Richard Simon, Leo Simon and Herman Simon. He is so grateful for his two nieces Sandra Hunter and Donna Williams for all the help they’ve shown to him and Rose. Services for George will be Thursday at 4:30 P.M. with Brother Ronald Lunt, Brother Vernon Youell and Mr. David Avery officiating. Burial will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 410 Shugart Rd Dalton, Georgia on Thursday from 3 to 4:30 P.M.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Mission Fund, 4403 Panorama Dr, Cohutta, Ga. 30710 or to the American Legion Post 112, 118 N. Glenwood Ave, Dalton, Ga. 30720.
