Mr. John Thomas Spicknall commenced his Heavenly life on Saturday, July 26, 2014 from his residence in Dalton.
Tom was born October 5, 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida to Virginia Hale Spicknall and the late John Turnbull Spicknall, Jr. He lived his childhood years in Metuchen, New Jersey. Afterwards he attended Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina, earning a BA- business degree in 1975. Tom’s maternal grandfather, the late I. Vanson Hale, a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania banker, instilled in Tom a keen interest in markets and the financial industry. After marrying in 1979, Tom and wife Peg moved to Dalton in 1983. Having completed special training, Tom opened the first Edward D. Jones office in town, and eventually opened his own investment office. Tom was a Certified Financial Planner and a charter member of Kingdom Advisors, a Christian Financial Professionals Association.
He was a past member of the Dalton Rotary Club, serving as Club President from 1992-1993.
Tom enjoyed many activities, including hunting, golf, and spending time with family, friends and clients.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Virginia Hale Spicknall of Savannah, Georgia, his wife, Margaret (Peg) Spicknall, his son, John Thomas Spicknall, Jr. and wife Tricia of Marietta, his daughter Susan Hale Spicknall of Atlanta, a granddaughter Evelyn Jane Spicknall, also of Marietta, brother Robert (Bob) Hale Spicknall of Richmond, Virginia.
The Spicknall family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Chris Barrett and his team of loyal caregivers for their love and nurturing skills during Tom’s lengthy illness, especially Regina Grant, Gaye McKenzie, and Misty Crosby.

A service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held Monday, August 4 at 1pm at ChristChurch Presbyterian, 510 S. Tibbs Road. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church. The family also requests that any memorials please be made to ChristChurch Presbyterian, 510 S. Tibbs Rd, Dalton, GA. 30720, the Thornwell Home for Children, 302 S. Broad St, Clinton, SC. 29325 or at the discretion of the giver.
