Mr. Harry Lane Arthur, 75, of Dalton, passed away Christmas Eve Saturday, December 24, 2005 at his residence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L.L. “Jack” and Myrtle Bond Arthur.
Mr. Arthur was a native of Dalton who loved his hometown and his many friends.
He was a graduate of Dalton High School and received sports scholarships to the Georgia Military Academy and the University of Georgia.
He was a retired masonry contractor who over a thirty year period built many of the local commercial buildings, homes and churches in the area. He was the mason who reconstructed the brick work on the Chief Vann House.
He served his country in the Naval Air Reserve as a gunner on a TBM Avenger serving out of the Naval Air Station in Chamblee, Georgia.
He had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed singing in a church choir and performing in local activities. His hobby was antique automobiles and he belonged to many area car clubs. He served as a Senior Master Judge for the Antique Automobile Club of America.
Harry Lane is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn Kerr Arthur; son and daughter-in-law, Lane & Terri Arthur; daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Scotty Martin. Two beloved grandchildren, Marilynn Martin and Murphy Martin all of Dalton.
Brother-in-law and wife, Jack & Nancy Kerr of Chattanooga.
It was his request to be cremated and to have a private graveside service and burial in the family plot in West Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Lamar Graham officiating.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home after the service on Tuesday, December 27, from 4 until 8 P.M.
