Rev. Lawrence Murphy, 97, of Dalton, passed away Friday, January 9, 2015.

He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II. Rev. Murphy came to Dalton in 1954 and founded the Dalton First Assembly of God, where he pastored for 32 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nelle Murphy in 2000.

Rev. Murphy is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Barbara Murphy of Savannah, GA, Capt. Larron Murphy (Missing In Action in Vietnam), Kenneth and Katrina Murphy of Dalton; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Phil Westbury of Hartwell, GA, Susan and Ron Ward of Dalton; sister, Maxine Cammenga of Rosepond, LA; grandchildren, Mike, Ricky, Kim, Stephanie, Dawn, Josh, and Aaron; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Rev. Murphy will be Sunday at 2 PM at Dalton First Assembly of God with Rev. Ted Miller officiating.

Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4 until 7 PM at Love Funeral Home.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Dalton First Assembly of God, P.O. Box 1372 Dalton, GA 30722.
