Mr. Emory Bryan Grant, 91, of Lilburn, GA. and formerly of Dalton, GA., passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2008.
He was born in Griffin, GA., on July 14, 1917and served his country as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, stationed in Europe during World War II. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a BS in Industrial Management in 1949, moving to Cochran, GA. on 1953 to serve as the Controller at Middle Georgia College. In 1967, he went on to assist in opening Dalton State College and serve
as its first Controller until his retirement in 1983. A longtime Rotary Club member, he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. An avid golfer, hunter and fisherman, he was also a Boy Scout leader and a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church.
Emory was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Grant in 1995. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lyna Grant Taylor and John of Lilburn, Jim and Denise Grant of Norcross; sister, Winifred Goodman of Griffin; grandchildren, Leslie Taylor Mincey of Irvine, CA., Susan Taylor Rouse of Clemson, S.C., Kathryn Grant of Washington, DC and Bryan Grant of Houston, TX.; great-grandchildren, Thomas Mincey of Irvine, CA., Paige Rouse and Taylor Rouse of Clemson, SC.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 P.M. from the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Dr. Joe Peabody officiating.
Burial will follow in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Saturday from 12 to 1 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Dalton State College Foundation or the Georgia Tech Foundation.
