Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Fraker Kendrick, 94, of Dalton, died Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Hamilton Medical Center.
She was born June 16, 1914, in Whitfield County, the daughter of, George Heartsell Fraker and Byrd Renfroe Fraker of Dawnville. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Fraker Hackney; brothers, Richard H. Fraker and Earnest F. Fraker; nephews, James F. Fraker and Marvin H. Hackney.
Dot received her education in Whitfield County schools, the Georgia Teachers’ College at Athens and at Tift College. She was married to the late Reverend Otis C. Kendrick and after serving Baptist churches in South Georgia with him, she returned to Whitfield County upon his death in 1967, where she remained committed to her Christian faith and church life. A member of Dug Gap Baptist church, she sang in the choir, participated in the Modern Maturity Group and faithfully attended the Keenagers Sunday School class. Previously, she served as pianist and Women’s Missionary Union director at Macedonia Baptist church.
Dot retired from the Whitfield County School System, after teaching elementary school for 36 years. She taught second and third grade at Dawnville School for 27 years and 9 years in South Georgia Schools and retired in 1975. Active in her community, Mrs. Kendrick belonged to the Whitfield-Murray Retired Teachers Association, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Dug Gap Homemakers, Dawnville Homemakers, Young at Heart Club and other clubs and organizations. A loyal Bulldog fan, she loved to watch Georgia football games.
Dorothy Fraker Kendrick is remembered for her lively, fun-loving disposition, her quick sense of humor, her generosity, and the love she held toward her family and the children she taught.
She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, William H. and Rosene Fraker of Big Canoe; seven nieces and nephews, Carolyn Fraker Cleveland, Nancy Hackney Cochran, Jon H. Fraker, Karen Fraker Brown, Lynne Fraker Dodson, Kathryn Hackney Babb and Evelyn Hackney Webb; great-nieces and nephews, Thomas W. Farmer, Jr., Debra Cochran Caraway, Julie Farmer Kirk, Lauri Farmer Britton, Larry Christopher Cochran, James F. Fraker, Jr., Richard A. Fraker, Wendi Fraker Jones, Melissa Fraker Schofield, Jeffery L. Cole, J. Michael Fraker, Joshua L. Cole and William H Dodson; Twenty-Three Great-great nieces and nephews of whom she was very proud; special caregivers, Freda Boring and Betty Masters.
Services will be 11 A.M. Saturday at Dug Gap Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Bagley officiating.
Burial will be in Dawnville Cemetery.
The family will receiver friends at Love Funeral Home Friday from 5 to 8 P.M.
