E. Dean Smith Jr.

Mr. E. Dean Smith Jr., 63, of Dalton passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015 at his residence.
He was the son of the late E. Dean Smith Sr. and Betty Harris Smith.
Dean was a member of the Dalton First Baptist Church, worked in the textile industry for many years, served as the Whitfield County Director of the N.G.E.M.C. and was an avid outdoorsman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Jane Hackney Smith of Dalton; daughters and son-in-law, Katie and Greg Herzog of Gainesville, GA, Carly Smith of Charlotte, NC. and Molly Smith of Portland, OR; grandson, Thomas Herzog of Gainesville, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Dana and Robert Crain of Canton, GA; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Dalton First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Light officiating.
Burial will follow in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends in the atrium of the church on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Carolina Raptor Center, P.O. Box 16443, Charlotte, NC. 28297 or to one’s favorite charity.
