Hurt, Robert D. Jr. “Bob” Chief Master Sergeant, US Air Force, Retired, Age 95 of Pittsburgh, PA passed away early Friday morning March 13th, 2015.
He was a native of Dalton, GA., a 1939 graduate of Dalton High School and a long standing member of the First Baptist Church of Dalton.
A WWII veteran having served in China, Burma and India Theatre of Operations as a member of the 14th Air Force. He later served in the Strategic Air Command during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a Certified Club Manager and member of the Honor Society of the Club Managers Association of America for 42 years. He was President of the Washington D.C. chapter from 1971-1973. After the military, he was the Manager of the Columbia Country Club in Washington, DC. Later he did many hours of hospital volunteer work in Pittsburgh, PA and in Dalton, GA. Of his many hobbies, he enjoyed reading, golf and bowling.
Preceded in death by his parents, Robert Driscoll and Frances Elizabeth Springfield Hurt, founders of Hurt’s Master Cleaners; brother, Douglas Elliott Hurt; sister, Martha Nell Hurt Cook; and his wife of 59 years, Marcelle “Bunny” Hurt.
He is survived by his wife Betty Lou; two sons Robert D. III and his wife Kathryn of Houston, TX and Joseph B. “Bo” and his wife Sandra of Pittsburgh, PA. He has four grandchildren, Lauren (Jon) Wharton, Wendy Gerlach, Robert D. Hurt IV “Chip” and Ben (Chellie) Hurt. Affectionately known as “Pops”, he has five great-grandchildren, Eric, Greg and Andrew Wharton, Abigail Gerlach and Noah Hurt.
The family would like to thank all the staff and our friends for their care and support during these past six months.
Friends will be welcomed Friday at Love Funeral Home, 1402 N. Thornton Ave., Dalton, GA.,beginning at 1PM with a concluding service in the chapel of Love Funeral Home presided by Pastor Phillip Cannon at 4PM.
A Military Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery.
