Perdita Padgett Rollins, age 95, passed away at Morningside of Dalton on June 15, 2015.
She was born on January 30, 1920, in Cherokee County, Alabama, daughter of the late W. Herman and Carrie Owenby Padgett.
She was a career school teacher in the public schools of Whitfield County and the City of Dalton. During her long career, she enriched the lives of innumerable children, their parents and her fellow educators and friends.
She was educated in the public schools of Murray, Gilmer and Pickens Counties, and earned a two-year certificate from Reinhardt College and a B.A. degree in education from Shorter College. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Dalton and served the church as Sunday school teacher. She served as an American Red Cross volunteer at Hamilton Medical Center and was one of the founders of DOC-UP, Dalton Organization of Churches United for People, an interdenominational ministry which serves the urgent needs of local families in distress.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, the late Mack A. Rollins, also of Dalton; an infant son, Dennis Brendan Rollins, and by her brothers, Walter L. Padgett of Athens, GA; Rev. Edgar A. Padgett of Calhoun, GA, Rev. Robert T. Padgett of Whitfield County, and T. Jack Padgett of Columbia, SC.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Carole Rollins and Roger and Peggy Rollins, all of Dalton; granddaughters and spouses, Dr.Cristin Rollins and Jason Korn of Indianapolis and Elizabeth “Betsy” and David Snyder of Dalton; grandsons and spouses, Wyatt and Amanda Rollins of Subligna and Andy and Veronica Rollins of Dalton; and five great grandchildren, Knox Arthur and Annabelle Rollins of Subligna, Drew and Gracy Snyder, and Charlie Rollins all of Dalton, along with numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Services are at 11:30 am on Saturday, June 20, in the chapel of First United Methodist Church of Dalton with Rev. Robin Lindsey officiating. Burial will be at Dawn-Rest Cemetery in the Dawnville Community.
The family will receive friends in the Atrium at First United Methodist Church from 10:00am until shortly before the funeral service.
