Bruce Alan Kling, 55, of Dalton, died July 10, 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Shirley Kling.
Missing her father terribly is his only daughter, Grace Kling of New York City. He also left behind his brother David Kling of Denton, Texas, and nephews Tyler and Heidi Kling and Corbin Kling.
Bruce was born in Abilene, TX November 4, 1959 and moved often as a child of the military. He was baptized in the ocean in Guam as a child and again as an adult at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Dekalb County. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and won the Thomas Arkle Clark award (ATO's highest national award) as a senior at Georgia State University where he lobbied at the Georgia Capitol to create and fund a law school for Ga State. He received his Doctorate of Law from Emory University School of Law and started practicing law with Kinney, Kemp, Pickell, Sponcler, and Joiner law firm in Dalton in the summer of 1985. He was a champion for children and represented DFCS as the special assistant attorney general for the State of Georgia in child welfare litigation for many years. He was at one time Juvenile Court Judge for the Conausaga District. Bruce was also the Whitfield County Jaycees Outstanding Person of the Year in 1992 and past President of the Conausaga Bar Association.
He would thank Gladys Knight for only going on tour and not cutting an album as his life changing moment. His career as a guitarist ended then as he changed from being a music major to a political science major in college. He had a love for barbecuing and grilling and was famous for his gifts of smoked turkeys and pepper sauce during the holidays.
