Brenda Drake Wood
Brenda Drake Wood, age 74, of Dalton, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on August 10, 2015, at her residence while surrounded by her family. She was born November 19, 1940 in Atlanta, Georgia. Brenda was a member of First Baptist Church of Dalton for 33 years. A 1958 graduate of Northside High School in Atlanta, Georgia, she attended Mercer University and later graduated Magna Cum Laud from Kennesaw State University in 1996. After serving as the Secretary for Dug Gap Baptist Church for many years, she was employed with Dalton Public Schools as the Human Resources secretary for 20+ years. She retired form Whitfield County Schools in 2006.
Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford Thomas Drake and Ira Belle Drake of Atlanta, Georgia.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jack Marion Wood; daughters and sons in law, Beth and Mark Powell, Kathy and Steve Morgan; sons and daughters in law, Cliff and Kelli Wood and Nathan and Brooke Holcomb all of Dalton; seven grandchildren: Kate and Drake Morgan; Ben, Taylor, Thomas, and Emily Wood; and R. D. Holcomb; sister in law, Virginia Wood Anderson; nephews and niece: Bob & Linda Anderson of Birmingham, Alabama, David Anderson of Dalton, Patti & Tim Spell of Spanish Fort, Alabama; cousins, Ronald & Miriam Williams of Sarasota, Florida; Richard Williams of Coral Gables, Florida; Special friends: John & Clarice McDonald, Heather & Nathan Donahue of Dalton; Beth & Wayne Smith of Dawsonville, Georgia; Holly & Brian Baer of Atlanta, Georgia; and special neighbor, Mary Alice Phillips of Dalton.
The family would like to express very special thanks to Heartlite Hospice and sitters and friends Cynthia Jones, Lorese Crawl and Karen Steele of Dalton, Georgia.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 15, 2015 in the Atrium of First Baptist Church of Dalton from 2 p.m. to 5.p.m. with the funeral service to immediately follow in the Sanctuary with Dr. Bill Ireland and Reverend Larry Flanagan officiating. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the First Foundation and/or First Baptist Church, Dalton, Georgia.
