Mrs. Louise Holcombe Eddings died on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Georgia. She was born on March 15, 1926 in Montevallo, Alabama and graduated from Montevallo College in 1946. She later obtained her Masters degree from the University of Georgia.
She retired from the Dalton Public School System after twenty-seven years where she taught fourth grade at City Park Elementary and Brookwood Elementary prior to serving as the System Director of School Social Services. During her years of service, she received numerous honors including The Daily Citizens News Woman of the Year 1981, and School Social Worker of the Year 1985. She considered all of her students, her favorite students, enriching their lives into adulthood.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Idalee Moody Holcombe and Arthur Holcombe; her husband of 59 years Raymond “Ray” Eddings; sisters, Hazel Nash and Mary Nita Collins; and brothers, Arthur Hoyt and James “Pete” Holcombe.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Susan Eddings of St. Simons Island, Georgia; Michael R. and LuAn Eddings of Rome, Georgia; grandchildren, Phillip Eddings, II of Salt Lake City Utah; Michael Eddings of Atlanta, Georgia; and their mother, Mary Eddings of Robbinsville, N.C.; Erin Eddings of Gangneung, South Korea; Laura Eddings of Charleston, South Carolina, and their mother, Jennifer Besal of Charleston, SC; step granddaughter, Tracey and Andy Boozer of St. Simons Island, Georgia; step great-grandson, Zane Boozer of St. Simons Island, Georgia; sisters, Ann Hill of , Palo Alto, California and Becky Bolton, Birmingham, Alabama; brother, Edward Holcombe of Little Rock, Arkansas; many dear nieces and nephews, and special friends, Anne Jones and Charlie and Jane Jones, of Dalton, Georgia.
Louise was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dalton, a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, and served on many community boards, including President of G.V.T.A. 1978-1979. Her favorite past-times were her grandchildren, her yard and her flowers.
Memorial Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 510 South Tibbs Road, Dalton, Georgia on Monday, March 2, 2009 at 2 o’clock p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Dalton. Your presence to rejoice in the life of Louise Eddings will be welcomed.
