Walter Clarence Parks

December 29, 1937 — October 23, 2015

Mr. Walter Clarence Parks, 77, of Dalton, passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, at Hamilton Medical Center.


Walter was the son of the late Willis Cooper “W.C.” Parks, Sr. and Leila Bowen Parks. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Luther Tarver Parks and Emma Cooper Parks, Gordon Bowen and Pearl L. Bishop, his wife Augusta Jane King Parks, and his brother Willis Cooper ‘Bill’ Parks Jr.


Walter was a graduate of North Georgia College and Oklahoma State University where he received his Masters of Science in Chemistry. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He then had an active career as a chemist and successful businessman. He was a member of the Dalton First United Methodist Church. Walter played trumpet in his youth, was a lifelong learner most recently delving into military history and genealogy, and enjoyed time with his grandchildren.


Walter is survived by his son and daughters, Claire Elizabeth Parks Count and her husband Kraig of Marietta, Patrick Walter Parks and his wife Junge of Alpharetta, and Caroline Parks Adcock and her husband Jonathan A. Adcock of Dalton; his grandchildren, Ian Robert Count of Marietta, Ava Nie Parks and Jane Nie Parks of Alpharetta, and Gray Lawson Jackson and David Anderson Jackson of Dalton; Step-grandchild Caroline Hannah Adcock; brothers and sisters-in-law; Gordon and Judy Parks of Statesboro and Larry Parks of Douglasville, and Ivy Deems Parks Vinings wife of Robert L. Vinings of Dalton; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary and Herb O’Briant, Martha Hackney of Dalton and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.


Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Dalton First United Methodist Church with Dr. Robin Lindsey officiating. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery. The Family will receive friends in the atrium of the church Monday from Noon to funeral hour at 1:30.
