Elizabeth "Betty" Fuller

July 17, 1928 — December 4, 2015

Elizabeth, “Betty”, West Fuller, age 87, passed away at her residence in Dalton, Ga on December 4, 2015. She was born on July 17, 1928 in LaGrange, Ga as the middle of three daughters to Charles Glover Fisher and Virginia Powers Fisher and was preceded in death by her husbands, Arthur Eugene West, Sr. and Homer Fuller; daughter, Virginia Lee West and a grandson, David Arthur West.

Betty grew up in Pelzer, SC and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration where she earned the nickname, “Body by Fisher”. She was married to Arthur Eugene West of Greenville, SC. Arthur was a graduate of Clemson University.

In Monticello, Arkansas as a young mother of three, Betty was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and was instrumental in establishing the hospital’s Candy Stripers volunteer organization. She was involved as a campaign manager for the GOP Governor for the state of Arkansas.

After moving to Atlanta in 1969, Betty ran a successful in-home catering business, compiled and published a cookbook, “Southern Exposure”, and enjoyed playing tennis with her friends at the Cherokee Town and Country Club.

In Dalton, Ga., Betty has been devoted in service and friendship to many. Some of the highlights of her contributions include 19 years with “Doc-Up”, as well as, Meals on Wheels, and the Family Crisis Program. She established “Friends of the Library” gift shop and for that was recognized by the City Of Dalton as, “Citizen of the Month”. Betty also loved the camaraderie and fellowship in her Garden and Bridge Clubs and her favorite, the MarSel Dancers, where the girls tapped at nursing homes, churches, and schools – and anywhere to bring a smile.

Throughout her life’s journey, Betty has served in the Church, as a leader and faithful follower of Christ. She was a bright light of joy and inspiration to her loved ones and all who knew her.

Betty is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Arthur “Skip” Eugene West, Jr and his fiancé, Jayna Bradshaw and Thomas Peden and Connie Allen West; grandchildren, Katherine and Clint Webster, Natalie West, Courtney West and Peyton West; great-granddaughter, Hailey West; many, many nieces and nephews.
