Dicksie Jean Carns Francis
October 1, 1941 – December 12, 2015
Our beloved Dicksie Jean (Carns) Francis, 74, returned to her Father in Heaven on December 12, 2015. She passed away in her home in Dalton, GA with her devoted husband and family by her side.
Dicksie was born in Washington, D.C. on October 1, 1941 to her loving parents, Eugene and Dixie Carns. She and her younger sister Penny, were blessed with a happy childhood. Dicksie enjoyed tennis and music, playing both the piano and the cello. She attended primary, middle and high school in Coffeyville, Kansas. It was there that she met the love of her life, Ron Francis.
Ron and Dicksie were married in 1958. Shortly after, the couple moved to San Diego where Ron served in the Navy. During this time, Dicksie worked as an EKG and lab technician. Dicksie and Ron have three children – Mark, Rhonda and Stephanie. After her children were born, Dicksie stayed home to raise and spend quality time with them. The family lived in Kansas, Texas, Virginia and Arizona.
Ron and Dicksie eventually made their home in Dalton, Georgia in 1989.
A long-time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dicksie was always involved in church service, including serving two missions with Ron. She exemplified true Christian love and charity to everyone, by taking meals to the sick, visiting with neighbors, and giving to the less fortunate. Her faith in Christ was apparent in the way she lived. She gracefully dealt with many illnesses throughout her life, yet her often weak and tired hands were continuously lifting others.
Dicksie was very active in her community. Her family often joked about how she knew someone everywhere she went. She volunteered with Hamilton Hospice in Dalton and served as the president of the volunteer group for three years.
Dicksie was an intelligent woman who loved to challenge herself through learning. She took courses at Wichita State University and Arizona State University. As an avid reader, Dicksie was usually in the middle of several books at a time. Some of her other interests included gardening, cooking, completing crossword puzzles, and loving on her dog Sadie.
She and her sweetheart spent a wonderful 57.5 years together. They explored Europe and enjoyed family vacations all over the world. Dicksie’s favorite place to visit was Aruba. They visited the island annually for 20 years in a row.
Dicksie was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Dixie Carns; brother, Robert; and her maternal and paternal grandparents. She is survived by her husband, Ron; sister, Penny; children, Mark (Minon), Rhonda (Nick) Fuduloff and Stephanie (Ronnie) Clark; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
She left us all inspired by her optimism and zeal for life. Family and friends were everything to her, and she was everything to us all. We would like to thank her hospice care nurses and team, etc.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Love Funeral Home. Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Mark Francis and President Rick Evans officiating.
Burial will be in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, Dicksie would have liked for donations to be made to The Alzheimer’s Disease Fund, 922 E. Morris St. Dalton, Ga. 30720.
