Emmett "Sherrill" Whitfield

Mr. Emmett “Sherrill” Whitfield, 76, of Dalton passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016. Sherrill was born in Cedartown, GA on August 31, 1939. He was a graduate of Dalton High School and Lincoln Memorial University. He was inducted into the Lincoln Memorial University Hall of Fame for baseball in 1992. Sherrill’s love of sports continued throughout his life including with the Dalton Parks and Recreation Department. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Sherrill was preceded in death by his father, Emmett M. Whitfield in 2007. He is survived by his mother, Hazel Biggers Whitfield of Dalton; Son, Tim Whitfield of Dalton; daughters and son-in-law, Dr. Traci Bramlett (Allan) of Hampstead, NC, and Terry Johnston of Canton, GA; the mother of his children, Arnie Whitfield of Dalton; sister, Gail Whitfield of Dalton; grandchildren, Ashlyn Smalling, Patrick Hayes, Joshua Joiner, Katherine Joiner, Sarah Hardeman, and Jack Sherrill Johnston; great-grandchildren, Owen, Liam and Ellis Smalling. A memorial service for Sherrill will be held at 4 PM on Sunday in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday from 2 until 4 PM. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 200 West Emery St. Suite 3, Dalton, GA 30720.
