Glenn H. Dillard

d. February 22, 2016

Mr. Glenn H. Dillard, 93, of Dalton passed Monday, February 22, 2016 at Riverwood Senior Living in Rome, Georgia.

He was the son of the late William B. and Lottie Bailey Dillard and was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Jean Millsap Dillard; sister, June Hyden and brothers, Herman Dillard, Walter E. Dillard and James H. Dillard.

Glenn graduated from Valley Point High School in 1939. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He returned to Dalton and worked for L.A. Lee Printing Company where he was instrumental in helping start the Daily Citizen Newspaper. Later he went to work for his former high school principle I.V. Chandler at Patcraft Mills and retired in 1987.

Glenn spent many hours in his workshop whittling out birds, fish, squirrels and other objects. He loved to take rides through the countryside, eating at mom and pop restaurants and even had the pleasure of dining with some celebrities along the way. But he would say, “I was the happiest when I was on the golf course hitting that little white ball.”

He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Jewell Dillard and Elizabeth Dillard; brother-in-law, Jim Hyden; nieces, Sylvia Loudin, Carmen Souther, Katrina Bryant, Kay Sane, Janice Bagley, Barbara Pulliam, Janette Woolfork and Annelle Hindman; nephews, Lamar Dillard, Ben Dillard, Ken Dillard, Len Dillard, Dennis Warnack, Evan Souther, Morgan Souther, Glen Street and Butch Cowart; special friends, Glenneane Day, Bobbie Briley, Joe and Barbara Kaphart, Rob and Dianne Dempsey.

The family would like to thank the staff of Riverwood Senior Living and Homestead Hospice for their excellent care and love for Glenn.
