Mr. Truman D. Padgett, Sr., 87, of Dalton, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. He was the son of the late, William and Verda Mae Lawing Padgett and was preceded in death by his sister, Alma Jones; brothers, Earl Padgett, Lloyd Padgett, Leonard Padgett, Thurman Padgett and Charles Padgett. Truman was an Auto Mechanic by trade. He loved to build and race cars. He was a very accomplished race car driver, participating in and winning many races. He raced at many tracks in the southeast, including the Daytona Beach Race, now known as the Daytona 500. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Jasper, GA. Truman is survived by the love of his life of 61 years, Lavada Newberry Padgett of the residence; son and daughter-in-law, Truman D. Padgett, Jr. and Karen of Dalton; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Don Martin of Dalton and Terri and Mark Brown of Cohutta; grandchildren, Wayne (Amanda) Cochran, Courtney (Rich) Michael, Jessica Brown and Jordan Padgett; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with Rev. Gary McPherson officiating. Burial will be in United Memorial Gardens.
