Mr. Joe D. Goodson, 85, of Dalton passed away March 25, 2016 at his home. He is the son of the late H. C. Goodson and Georgia Phillips Goodson, and the spouse of his beloved wife, the late Margaret Keeton Goodson. Survivors include daughters and spouses, Don and Brenda Hoffmeyer, Margaret Anne and Wesley Graves, Paula Goodson Keener, all of Dalton and son, Brad and Amy Goodson of Alpharetta; grandchildren, Wesley and Kristen Graves of Rocky Face and Nicholas Graves of Dalton, Hudson and Jill Keener of LaGrange, Hunter Keener of Germantown, TN, Brooke and Claire Goodson of Alpharetta, Joseph Hoffmeyer of Greenville, SC and Christi Hoffmeyer of Buffalo, NY; great grandchildren, Hannah and Matthew Graves of Rocky Face and Catherine Hoffmeyer of Greenville, SC.

Joe served in the Navy during the Korean War. After returning from the war, he moved back to his hometown of Chickamauga and married his long time sweetheart, Margaret Keeton. Joe graduated from the University of Chattanooga (now UTC) with a degree in accounting, and began his more than 50-year career as a CPA in Chattanooga before him and his family moved to Dalton in 1963 where he was actively involved in the community throughout his life. Joe served as both a Deacon and Elder in the First Presbyterian Church, was a long-time member of the Dalton Rotary Club, served in numerous roles with the Dalton Chamber of Commerce, and on many boards, including Cheerhaven, Friendship House, The Creative Arts Guild, and was a founding board member of the GreenHouse, a center for sexually abused children. Joe also served as a member of the Dalton Board of Education from 1979 to 1987. An Eagle Scout, he remained active in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as District Chairman from 1972 to 1974 and as a scout leader for numerous troops, including the first Friendship House Boy Scout troop. He also donated his time to the O.N. Jonas Foundation, the Roman Open, and the Dalton-Whitfield County Library.

A private service will be held by the family with the Reverend Walter M. Jones officiating. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Love funeral home Friday evening, April 1, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 489, Dalton, GA 30722-0489 or the Dalton Education Foundation, P.O. Box 1408, Dalton, GA 30722-1408.
