Jack Gates

Mr. Jack L. Gates, 76, of Dalton and Eatonton, Georgia passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at his residence in Eatonton.

He was the son of the late Joseph Marvin Gates Sr. and Jane Evelyn Wheeler Gates and was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Mary Hatton Byrd; sisters, Betty Jane Henderson, Emily Gunn and brothers, Joseph Marvin Gates Jr. and James Harold Gates.

Jack was a longtime member of the Dalton First United Methodist Church and current member of the Greensboro First United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Premium Yarn Dyers.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Linda Hatton Gates of Eatonton, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Allison Gates Oxford and Matt Oxford of Rocky Face, Ashley Gates Key and Todd Key of Gulf Port, MS; grandchildren, Anna Kate Bobo of Rocky Face, Gannon Key and Layton Key of Gulf Port, MS. ; grandson-in-law, Austin Byrd of Rocky Face; great-grandson and namesake, Jackson Thomas Byrd of Rocky Face; sister, Georgia Ann Brooks of Conyers, GA; nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m.

Memorial services will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Greensboro First United Methodist Church North Campus, 202 W. Broad St, Greensboro, Ga. 30642, with the Rev. Mike Morgan and the Rev. Hugh Hendrickson officiating.
