Mr. John Edward Gordon, 84, of Dalton, passed away Thursday September 29, 2016.

He was the son of the late, John H. and Mattie Smith Gordon and was preceded in death by his son, Bill Karl Gordon; sisters, Fannie Lou Gordon and Margaret Hunt; brother, James William Gordon; sister-in-law, Mattie Gordon.

John was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was the owner of Gordon's Chevron from 1978 to 2001 and a Whitfield County School Bus driver for 20 + years. John was a avid dirt track/stock car driver at North Georgia Speedway from 1970's to the 1990's.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Shirley Temple Tarvin Gordon of the residence; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Dana Brock Gordon of Ranger, GA and Wayne Edward Gordon of Lafayette; daughter Tracey Chambers of Dalton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Bobby Scruggs of Dalton, Ann and Melvin Hopkins of Dalton; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral service will at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with Brother James Watts and Richard Brock officiating.

Burial will follow in Tilton Baptist Church Cemetery with American Legion Post # 112 in charge of military rites.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Gordon, Gus Gordon, Josh Gordon, Harley Gordon, Darrin Branch and Milton Brown.

The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home on Saturday from 3 until 9 p.m. and on Sunday from noon until the funeral hour at 2.
