Mrs. Mary Helen Herring of Dalton passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016. She was born in Murray County to the late, George and Laura Stafford and was preceded in death by her loving husband, Claude Herring; brothers and sister-in-law, Carl Stafford, Alfred and Henrietta Ingram and George "T.G." Stafford; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marco and Bill Hill, Maurine and Fred Poteet and Ruby and Alton Miller. Helen was a graduate of Dalton High School and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Georgia and later earned her Master’s Degree from West Georgia College. She taught in Whitfield County and Dalton Public Schools for forty years. She was an active member of the Retired Teachers Association and a member of the First United Methodist Church. Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Wesley Green of Resaca; sons, David Herring and Mark Herring both of Dalton; granddaughters, Paige Herring and Emily Herring; sister-in-law, Wanda Stafford of Lafayette; nieces and nephews. Her family will miss her. May she be blessed with God's love now and forever. Helen's request was to be cremated and for private family services to be held. The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. The family asks that flowers please be omitted and memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 500 N Thornton Ave., Dalton GA 30720 or one's favorite charity.
