Jasper Elijah Rogers, 88, of Dalton passed away January 23, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. Jasper was born in Delano, Tennessee on August 26, 1928. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and upon return to Tennessee completed his Bachelor's degree at Tennessee Wesleyan, becoming the first in his family to earn a college degree. A life-long educator, Jasper began his career as a teacher in his hometown and eventually became principal of Polk County High School. For his teaching efforts and community service, he was inducted into the Polk County Hall of Fame. He later moved with his family to Dalton, where he served as Valley Point High School's principal and as the first principal of Southeast Whitfield High School. Before retiring, he served as the Whitfield County School System Transportation Director. Jasper was a member of the Central Church of Christ where he was a Deacon and Director of the Benevolence Program. His hobbies included traveling, antique cars, woodworking and collecting. His greatest love was his family, and throughout his life he inspired those closest to him with his tenderness, curiosity, intelligence, wit, and compassion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elsie Rogers; brothers, Odean, Norman, and Buddy Rogers; sisters, Lois Rogers and Judy Evans; son-in-law, Darrell Brock. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Gladys Eaves Rogers of the residence; daughters, Patti (Leslie) Waycaster and Beth Brock both of Dalton; grandchildren, Blake Waycaster, Megan (Mark) Stratton, Austin (Beth) Brock, Tyler Brock, and Craig (Sallie Ann) Brock; great grandchildren, Eli Brock and McCartney Stratton; nieces and nephews. The family is greatly appreciative of special caregiver Penny Jackson. Services to celebrate Roger’s life will be held Thursday at 11 AM at Central Church of Christ. Burial will be at Benton Memorial Gardens in Benton, Tennessee. The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5:00-8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation (200 SE 1st Street Suite 800 Miami, FL 33131) or Central Church of Christ (515 N.
