A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, February 12, 2017 for Bertha R. De Armas, 102, of Dalton who passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017.
Mrs. De Armas was born in Tampa, Florida, where she lived her childhood and early adulthood. She and her family moved from the family home in Tampa because of her husband, Gilbert Sr., being called to active duty for a 2-year period in the U.S. Army Dental Corps at Ft. Knox, KY during the Korean War. While stationed at Ft. Knox, the De Armas family decided to relocate. They chose Dalton, and arrived the summer of 1955 when Dr. De Armas established his dental practice on W. Waugh St.
Mrs. De Armas was a long time and active member of the Dalton First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son Gilbert A. De Armas Jr., daughter-in-law Annette De Armas of Dalton, daughter Sharon De Armas Frey and son-in-law John Frey of Guntersville, Alabama. Also, three granddaughters: Caroline De Armas Mooney (Bill) of Dalton, Holly De Armas Kirkland (David) of Sugar Hill, Ga., Alise Frey Sims (Randy) of Roopville, Ga., two great-granddaughters: Kathryn Lutrick, Claire Lutrick, and three great-grandsons: Aaron Kirkland, Dylan Sims, and Tyson Mooney.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Chatsworth Healthcare Center who was so caring and kind in meeting her needs. We also thank Avalon Hospice for the extra care they gave and also to a special caretaker Earlene Beaver.
We thank the Dalton First United Methodist Church, the staff, the group of ladies who faithfully brought Dr. and Mrs. De Armas communion for the years when they could not attend, the beautiful flowers arranged and sent from the church, and for the many friends and cards that came her way.
A memorial service will be held at Dalton First United Methodist Church on Sunday, February 12, 2017. The family will receive friends in the Atrium from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by the service in the Chapel honoring Mrs. De Armas.
