Lela Akins

Lela Mae Richards Akins, age 75, of Dalton passed away at her home March 13, 2017.

She was the daughter of the late Jack Bruce Richards and Reba Mae Groves Richards and was preceded in death by her husband, James V. Akins in 1991 and brothers, Charles E. Richards, Jewell Richards and Jack Richards Jr.

Lela married the love of her life James Akins in 1962. Lela was a devoted and loving mother of two children and a loving mawmaw of one grandson and two great-grandsons that she loved with all her heart.

Survivors include her son, James Allen Akins and his wife Norma; daughter, Tammy Akins; grandson, Jamie Akins and his wife Holly; three great-grandchildren, Savannah Lollar, Jayden and Camden Akins all of Dalton; two sisters, Jean Carroll, Polly Cooper and her husband M.B. all of Cohutta; sisters-in-law, Betty Pippin and Jean Trollinger both of Dalton; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Stacy Hensley officiating.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband in West Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
