John Chester IV, 56, of Dalton passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Hamilton Medical Center. John was Battalion Chief of the Whitfield County Fire Department, where he served for 26 years. He was a member of Tilton Baptist Church. John was a graduate of Columbia High School in Albany, NY and was a Sergeant in the Marine Corps. He was a member of Tilton Masonic Lodge 291. He was the son of the late Mary Katherine Dollard. John is survived by his wife, Genesis “Genny” Chester; children, John Chester V and Cherie Chester of Flowery Branch, Jacob Chester of Dalton, and Olivia Chester of Dalton; father, John Chester III and Judy Chester of East Schodack, NY; grandchildren, Victoria Chester, William Chester, and Katherine Chester; brother, Bill and Pam Chester of Stephenson Town, NY, and Rob and Caroline Chester of East Greenbush, NY; sister, Janet Chester; nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Doris Williams of Dalton; sister-in-law, Patty Atkins of Dalton. Funeral services for John will be held Tuesday at 3 PM at Tilton Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Beach officiating. Burial will be in Tilton Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5 until 9 at Love Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Whitfield Firefighters Benevolent Fund, 410 N.
