Mr. Alton Lumpkin, 86, of Dalton, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2009 at Hamilton Medical Center.
He was the son of the late William and Jewel Lumpkin and was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Lumpkin and a brother, Dewey Lumpkin.
Alton was a veteran of the United States Army having served during WWII.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Dwight Smith, of South Carolina, Gene and Barbara Lumpkin, David and Lorine Lumpkin, Sammy Lumpkin and Sherry and Johnny Hawkins all of Dalton; sisters, Robbie Gilstrap and Nell Ruth Cook both of Dalton; brother, Richard Lumpkin of Villanow; grandchildren, Stephen and Denise Lumpkin, Scott Lumpkin, Vicki Patterson, Derek Lumpkin and Samantha Murphy; great-grandchildren, Adam Lumpkin, Elise Lumpkin, Noah Lumpkin, Brittany Lumpkin, Aubriana Hicks amd Aiden Lumpkin; great-great-grandchildren, Aiden Lumpkin, Evey Lumpkin and Ava Lumpkin; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Tuesday in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Carnes officiating. Burial will follow in Dunagan Cemetery with American Legion Post # 112 in charge of graveside rites.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Monday from 5 to 9 P.M.
