Diane Hammontree

November 24, 1948 — July 29, 2017

Mrs. Diane Gazaway Hammontree, 68, of Redwine Cove, passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at her home.

She was born November 24, 1948, a daughter of the late Tillman and Willena Gazaway of Redwine Cove. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Kenneth and Jerry Gazaway and her little sister, Patsy Gazaway.

Diane is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 35 years, Tony Hammontree; her daughters, Anna Hammontree and Allison Hammontree and her fiancé, Jeremy Norton; her three grandchildren, Alli Vick, Austin Hammontree and Odin Norton all of Dalton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Dewitt Greene of Redwine Cove, Delores and James Ramsey of Dalton, Deborah and Robert Brewster of Redwine Cove, Cindy and Carl Smith of Dalton; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Phyllis Gazaway of Redwine Cove; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

She graduated from Valley Point High School. She worked at Golden Scissors Beauty Salon for many years and retired from Whitfield County Schools as a bus driver for 25 years. She was also a beloved substitute teacher and parent volunteer at Valley Point Elementary. She faithfully served in many capacities for nearly 30 years in the Valley Point Schools and was an active member in the Redwine Cove community. She was recently honored in January 2016 as the recipient of the Southeast Lady Raider Pink Out Award and was recognized in a ceremony honoring a SHS community member who had been impacted by breast cancer.

Diane was a devoted wife, mother, meme, sister, aunt and cousin. She was the life of the party with an infectious personality that was truly one of a kind. To know her was to love her, and she loved everyone, spreading a warm smile, a joke or two, and lots of laughs to everyone she met. She loved life, her family and friends, and music. Her love and enthusiasm for dancing and singing karaoke will always be remembered. The “Live, Laugh, Love” motto best describes her life. Her sense of humor and laughter were contagious to all of us that had the privilege of knowing her!

The family would like to extend a special thank you to HHC nurse Karrell, along with the entire hospice team at CARIS Healthcare.
