Dorothy Stenvig

November 9, 1920 — July 30, 2017

On Sunday, July 30, 2017, Dorothy Lynn Mitchell Stenvig, whose friends called her Dot, peacefully entered into eternal rest at her niece, Norma Gentry's, home in Doraville, Georgia. Dot was born November 9, 1920, in Dalton, Georgia. Dot graduated from Dalton High School, and worked at Lockheed during the WWII years. She married Stan Stenvig from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and they built a beautiful life in Longmont and Lyons, Colorado. The true love of her life, though, was her precious son, Paul Mitchell Stenvig. She was a devoted Mother who always put her son first in her life. Dot was a founding member of Westview Presbyterian Church in Longmont, Colorado, where she served for 18 years as Treasurer, and was an active member of her Bible study class. Dot was a spiritual person who was always giving to others. She was an active hiker, and once enjoyed rafting down the Grand Canyon. She cultivated a wide variety of friends, and enjoyed having a diverse group of people in her life - her Bible study friends, her sewing circle, and her hiking buddies who enjoyed walks in the Rocky Mountains. Dot was also an avid reader. Dot was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Allen Stenvig; parents, Frank and Maggie Kittle Mitchell; brothers and sisters, Quillian (Irene) Mitchell and Paul (Ann) Mitchell of Dalton, Sue (Grady) Gentry of Doraville, and Bill (Louise) Mitchell of Calhoun. Dot is survived by her son, Paul, of Lyons, Colorado; special niece and caregiver, Norma Gentry, of Doraville, Georgia; and, many precious relatives and friends. Services will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at 10am at the chapel of Love Funeral Home in Dalton, Georgia with her good friend and Pastor Tom Brown officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Interment will follow in the Mitchell family plot at West Hill cemetery. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.lovefuneralhomega.com. Love Funeral Home, 1402 N. Thornton Ave. Dalton is in charge of arrangements.
