Terry L. Christie

August 30, 1939 — August 18, 2017

Dr. Terry L. Christie, Associate Professor Emeritus of Political Science, died early the morning of August 18th due to complications from a stroke.

A native of Bradenton, Florida, Terry came to Dalton in 1967 as one of the first faculty hires for the new Dalton Junior College. Terry taught history and political science here for 25 years, and he retired in 1992. A brief career in local politics – he ran unsuccessfully for the Georgia House of Representatives but later won a seat on the Dalton City Council – and his continued enjoyment of fly-fishing, books, and surrounding himself with friends filled his retirement years.

Terry is survived by his children, Ashley Christie (Tom) Garrity of Ashburn, VA Grey (Amy) Christie of Nashville, TN and Matthew (Cassie) Christie of Asheville, NC Grandchildren, Ryan Garrity, Caiti Garrity and Sean Garrity of Ashburn, VA Adison Christie of Nashville, TN Bennett Christie and Nora Christie of Asheville, NC Sister, Susan (John) Webb, Special friend, Anne Morris and close friends, John and Marilyn Hutcheson.

A memorial service for Terry will be held Tuesday at 1 pm at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Susan J. Butler officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be designated for the Terry L. Christie Scholarship in History & Politics at giving.daltonstate.edu or sent to the Dalton State Foundation, 650 College Drive, Dalton, GA 30720.
