Charles "Pete" Webster

September 13, 1956 — September 11, 2017

Charles Edward “Pete” Webster, 60, of Dalton, Georgia passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 11, 2017.

A lifelong resident of North Georgia, he earned the nickname Pete from his grandmother and brothers while growing up in Tunnel Hill. He was a member of the first ever football team at Tunnel Hill Elementary School and his love of sports began to grow. He was a graduate of West Side High School Class of 1974 serving as a member of the football team, basketball team, and baseball team. He was most decorated in basketball earning the Offensive Award, Hustle Award, and wearing #25, #32, or “whichever jersey they told him to put on” that game. His senior class voted him “Most Athletic” and most of his teammates and coaches knew him affectionately simply as “Dog.” After high school he pursued other athletic adventures taking up boxing, skiing, motocross racing, and finally the game that won his heart, golf.

Pete leaves a lasting legacy in the tufting industry. A self taught businessman, salesman, and inventor, he got his start observing the industry at all facets while working for Coronet. He went on to be a driving force behind the beginning of Precision Loopers and currently was President of Webco Unlimited and Williams Specialty Company. He was always one to have a side project, and there was none he loved more than Southeastern Golf Center in Ringgold, GA which he recently renamed Tin Cup Creek Driving Range. Over the years, Pete competed in and won many local and State level golf tournaments. Some of his prized victories came with good friends at the Red Bud Invitational, the Cannonball, the Georgia State Amateur Tournament, and the Club Championship at Battlefield Golf Course. He loved giving lessons and helping the youth in Catoosa County find a passion for golf. In 2013, Pete was admitted as a member of The Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA). However, he would always tell you his proudest accomplishments were his children and seeing them both graduate from the University of Tennessee. An avid Volunteers fan, he rarely missed a chance to watch the Vols play each Saturday.

He was preceded in death by his parents Eunice Pettyjohn Dorsey and Charles J. Webster; step-father, James G. Dorsey; beloved grandmother, Minnie Pettyjohn and brother-in-law, Billy Swafford.

He is survived by his daughter, Heather Webster Melton and her husband Chad Melton of Ooltewah; son, Cole Webster of Atlanta; his children’s mother, Kaye Webster of Ringgold; brothers, Kenneth (Laska) Dorsey of Ringgold, Johnny (Carolyn) Dorsey of Rocky Face; sisters, Linda Swafford of Heflin, Alabama and Cynthia Loranda Hambright of Tunnel Hill; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; his companion, Javonne Stepp Smith of Dalton and her children Jacey and Jayla; and numerous friends he considered family.
