John Salvaras

January 17, 1945 — November 25, 2017

John Salvaras, 72, of Dalton, passed away Saturday, November 25th 2017, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. He was the son of the late George and Fotini Salvaras. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy Holloway Salvaras; sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Titos Perantatos of Dalton; sister-in-law, Sue Holloway of Montgomery, TX; daughters and sons-in-law, Fay Salvaras and Lex Spoon of Atlanta and Amy and Chad Anderson of Rocky Face; granddaughter, Grace Anderson and grandson, Jay Anderson; nieces and nephews, Joanna and Jeff Dunford, George Perantatos, Traci Underwood, Mike and Wanda Holloway, and John and Phyllis Holloway; several great-nieces, great-nephews, special cousins; special friends, the Donald R. Thomas and R.S. Thomas family. John was born in Athens, Greece and immigrated to the United States in 1965 to attend Georgia Southern College. He was proud to become an American citizen in 1975 and he enjoyed a long career in the carpet and rug industry. He loved his family, his country, food, golf, fishing, dancing, his recliner, his screen porch, and Georgia football. He was an avid supporter of his children's and grandchildren's activities and loved his family well. He was funny, friendly, and generous. He was well liked in the Dalton community and seemed to see people he knew everywhere he went. He was a member of the Dalton Elks Lodge, the Georgia Bulldog Club, the Dalton Quarterback Club, and Dalton High Spirit Boosters. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 1st at 2pm in the sanctuary of Dalton First United Methodist Church with a brief receiving of friends beforehand at 1:30 in the Atrium. A private inurnment will follow the service. The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home on Thursday, November 30th from 4 until 6. Memorials may be made to Dalton First United Methodist Church (500 N Thornton Ave., Dalton GA 30720), Doc-Up of Dalton (100 Gordon St. Dalton, GA 30720), or the Northwest Georgia Healthcare Partnership in support of the new Anna Shaw Children's Institute (P.O. Box 182 Dalton, GA 30722).
