Frances Napier Jones

Frances Napier Jones (Mrs. Alfred W. Jones), daughter of the late Attorney General of Georgia and Mrs. George M. Napier, died May 30, 2006 at age 92.
She attended Agnes Scott College and was an honor graduate of the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority, Mortar Board and Phi Kappa Phi.
She married Alfred W. Jones of Dalton in 1940 and became a member of the extended Jones family there. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was librarian and served in Presbyterian Women.
She was also a member of the Lesche Women’s Club, the Dalton Garden Club, a Gray Lady at Hamilton Medical Center and a driver for the Voluntary Action Center. In her later years, she spent several afternoons each week visiting shut-ins who treasured her companionship.
Lake Frances in Whitfield County is named in her honor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred W. Jones and sisters, Mrs. Homer Sutton of Dalton and Mrs. Adna North of Atlanta. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law Fran and Bob Lewis of Roswell, Henrietta and Comer Turley of Dalton, and Laurie and Avery White of Covington. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Comer Turley III (and wife, Kim), Alfred Jones Turley, and Rebecca Napier White, Hetty Ruth White and Robert Lee White, and four great-grandchildren, niece, Carol Lumpkin, nieces, nephews and special caregivers,
Christine Mathews, Brenda Patterson, Frankie Love, Jennie Haynie and Joy Blea.

Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, June 2nd at Dalton First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Walter Jones and Rev. Tyler Downing officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the vestibule of the church from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday.
