Mrs. Juanita S. Wood, 90, of Dalton, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Magnolia Woods Assisted Living Facility in Linden, FL., where she had been a resident for the past five years.
She was born on April 30, 1919, in Chatsworth, GA., the daughter of the late George and Ethel Swanson and was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Oris Wood; daughter, Carole Blaylock Ward all of Dalton; brother, Harold and her sister Hazel of Chatsworth.
She was a pioneer in the carpet industry of Dalton. As a young girl she worked in various spread mills in Dalton and Chatsworth. She was an expert seamstress and took pride that she made the chenille peacock bedspreads that led into the birth of the carpet industry. She also worked for many years at Crown Cotton Mill as a cloth inspector and then became a full time homemaker where she took good care of her family. She was a loyal, hardworking, and determined person that passed these traits on to her family. She was an active member of the Dalton First Baptist Church of Dalton. She enjoyed singing and volunteering at church, gardening and going to ball games that her family was involved in.
Juanita is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Peggy Wood of Wildwood, FL.; grandchildren, Kimber Wood of Winter Haven, Tanner Wood of Wildwood, David and Maryann of Woodstock, GA., Scott and Patty Blaylock of Abilene, TX.; great-grandchildren, David Andrew Blaylock of Woodstock, Abby Blaylock of Atlanta and Aaron Blaylock of Abilene; her sister-in-law, Virginia Wood Alexander of Columbia, TN.
Funeral services will be at 11 A. M. Thursday in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Thursday from 10 A. M. til the funeral hour at 11.
