Mr. Robert Earl Steele, Sr., 81, of Dalton, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2010.
He was born January 12, 1928, in Dalton, the son of the late William Earl and Grace Sansom Steele and was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Steele Rogers of Dalton.
Mr. Steele attended Georgia Tech and was an avid Georgia Tech fan. He loved gardening and one of his greatest joys was sharing vegetables he grew with his family and others in the community. Mr. Steele was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He was also a wonderful friend to those he served through his business, the Steele Insurance Agency, throughout the last 60 years. Mr. Steele was an active member of Grove Level Baptist Church, where he enjoyed the fellowship of his Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sara Kate Spann Steele of Dalton; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Steele Layson of Lawrenceville, GA., Anna and Alan Weeks of Cohutta, Kris and J. R. Haynes of Chatsworth; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert E. Steele, Jr. and Janet of Dalton, David and Shelah Steele of Dalton, Billy and Sissy Steele of Cedartown, GA., Jimmy Steele of Dalton; sisters and brother-in-law, Faye Steele Martin of Marietta, GA., Shirley Steele Dalton and Bill of Tulsa, OK.; brother-in-law, Clayburn Rogers of Dalton; 4 granddaughters, Laurie and David Digby of Dacula, GA., Wendy and Tony Elrod of Rocky Face, Robin Steele of Athens, GA., Meredith Weeks and Erin Weeks both of Cohutta; 2 grandsons, Lance and Becky Layson and Conner Layson all of Lawrenceville, GA.; step-granddaughters, Savannah and Alex Gordon of Chatsworth, Angie and Jerry Moorehead of Dalton; step-grandsons, Matt Johnson of Cedartown, Greg and Angela Starks of Lilburn, GA.; great-grandchildren, Sara Kate Elrod, Will Elrod, Elisa Digby, Emily Digby, Ava Layson and Maddox Layson; step-great-grandchildren, Carson Gordon, Chloe Gordon, Noah Gordon, Brandon Hardy and Alicia Hardy; several nieces nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive..
Funeral services will Monday at 2 P.M. from the Grove Level Baptist Church with the Dr. Charlie Bridges officiating.
Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Bob’s sunday school class.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Sunday from 4 to 7 P.M.
