Electa Clair Phifer

Mrs. Electa Clair Allison Phifer, 99, formerly of 1105 East Broad St., Statesville, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, after a brief illness, at Morningside Assisted Living in Dalton, Ga.
She was born Jan. 1, 1911, in Concord, and was the daughter of the late Clarence Johnston and Mary Susan Allison. On March 29, 1936, she married Daniel Paul Phifer, who preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1992.
Mrs. Phifer was a graduate of Scotts High School and Mitchell College. She was raised attending Bethesda Presbyterian Church and after her marriage she became an active member of Oakland Presbyterian Church.
She had moved to Statesville as a child, where she lived until 2002 when she moved to Dalton, Ga., to be with her family.
During her life "Geck", as she was called by her family, loved sewing, gardening, canning, cooking, her home and her family.
She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, aunt and especially a wonderful mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Surviving is a daughter, Mary Ann Hayes and husband, Donald Merrill Hayes, of Dalton, Ga.; a grandson, Jason Everett Hayes and wife, Emily, of Indianapolis, Ind.; a granddaughter, Allison Merill Hayes, of Charlotte; a brother, C.J. “Bub” Allison Jr., of Williamsburg, Va.; a sister, Sara Mae Orren, of Snellville, Ga.; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services celebrating Mrs. Phifer's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery, and will be conducted by the Rev. Steve Snipes.
Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
