Mrs. Wyleen Carroll Turner, 84, of Dalton, went to be with the Lord, following a stroke, on Monday, January 25, 2010.
A life-long resident of Dalton, she was known for her radiant smile, gentle kindness, and energetic spirit. Mrs. Turner loved her Lord, family, friends, home, garden and pets. A former Auburn cheerleader, she maintained her zest for life, and spread joy to those around her.
Mrs. Turner was one of two females who graduated from pharmacy school at Auburn in 1946. She returned to Dalton to practice pharmacy at Hill Drug Company, the store her father, Dirk Hill, founded on Hamilton Street.
She was instrumental in the founding of Cheerhaven School, and an active supporter of its services for children and adults with developmental disabilities. She also served with her husband, Jack Turner, as a supporter of the Whitfield Healthcare Foundation.
Wyleen is the daughter of the late William A. (Dirk) and Peggy Hill and was also preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy Karen Carroll and her first husband, Ralph S. Carroll, Jr..
She is survived by her husband, Jackson P. Turner of Dalton; children, Bill and Nancy Carroll of Birmingham, AL., Scott and Robyn Carroll of Dalton, Sissi Carroll and Joe Donoghue of Tallahassee, Fl., Pat Turner of Jacksonville, Florida, Janet and Andy Walker of Dalton, Karen and Frank Booth of Gainesville, GA.; grandchildren, Jordan Carroll, Zach Carroll, Casey Carroll all of Dalton, Winn Carroll and Christa Carroll both of Birmingham, AL.
Funeral services will at 2 P.M. Wednesday at the Dalton First Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip Cannon, Dr. Billy Nimmons and the Rev. Larry Flanagan officiating.
Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends in the Atrium of the First Baptist Church Wednesday from 1 till the services at 2.
