Rev. Charles Thomas Moulton, 87, of Dalton, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, February 11, 2010 at his residence.
He was born August 14, 1922, in Whitfield County, Georgia to the late James Foster Moulton and Fay Speck Moulton Howell.
He grew up in Dalton and at the age of 16 began servicing machinery in several area bedspread companies before marrying his wife of over 63 years, Bea Goswick Moulton, and entering military service in 1943. He served in the Anti-Aircraft Corp, 739th AAA Gun Bn. in Suva, Viti Levu, Figi Islands, Negros Philippines and as Assistant Chaplin in Fincharen, New Guiena, and also Medical Technician.
Charles faithfully committed his life to a relationship with God at the age of 17, and answered the call to ministry at age 19, when he begin his life of ministry as co-pastor with Blake Carter at Maple Grove Baptist Church in Murray County, GA. He also pastored several North Georgia Baptist Churches including: McFarland Hill in Dalton, Fellowship Baptist in Plainville, GA. Welcome Hill in Trion, GA. Temple Baptist in Dalton, Poplar Springs in Dalton, Calvary Baptist in Murray County, Antioch Baptist in Calhoun, and Victory Baptist in Dalton. After retirement he served as interim pastor for several area churches, and willingly supplied the pulpit until age 86.
In 1956, Charles became a bi-vocational pastor while working full time running an electronics shop from his home, repairing TV’s, radios and stereos. In 1970, he and his wife started a single-family home rental business, which he was still managing at the time of his passing. He loved his family, gardening, carpentry, mining for rubies, traveling, tinkering, and improving gadgets and tools, and especially sharing his faith with others.
He lived everyday to the fullest and a phrase he spoke often was “I am determined”.
Charles was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Bea; granddaughter, Angela Faye Cline; brother, Foster Dare Moulton; sister, Lilly Fay Howell Sutherland Marks; step-sisters, Jewell Howell Brookshire and Edith Brookshire; step-brother, Ralph Howell and step-father, James Howell.
Charles is survived by his daughter and sons-in-law, Carol and Steve Cline, Charlene and Scott Ruddell, Cheryl and Lane Smith all of Dalton; grandchildren, Wayne and Tina (Coker) Cline of Acworth, GA., Corrie (Ruddell) and Johnny Pyles, and Cindy Cline of Dalton; great-grandchildren, Andrew Cline and Sarah Cline both of Acworth; sister, Nell Howell Hanes and Step-sister, Laura Howell Haley both of Dalton; nieces, nephews and cousins
Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Sunday from Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Bret Yaeger, the Rev. David Ray, the Rev. William Roberts, the Rev. Danny Goss and the Rev. George Ross officiating.
Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Saturday after 4 P. M.
