Betty Jean Fortner, 79, of Dalton passed away on February 18, 2010, from complications of a stroke. Per her wishes, she was cremated.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Charles L. Fortner; her parents Emmit and Priscilla McBee; her brothers Bud McBee, Kenneth McBee, and Edward McBee; and her sister Wyema Mahon.
Betty is survived by her son Charles G. Fortner of Destin, FL; her daughter and son-in-law Pam and Rob Russell of Blowing Rock, NC; her granddaughter Danielle Deavours and her husband Patrick of Montgomery, AL; her grandson Jason Fortner and his wife Gina of Newnan, GA; her great-granddaughters Sydney and Anna Fortner; and her granddaughter Jennifer Jay of Atlanta, GA.
Betty and her husband Charles moved to Dalton in 1959. She served as a legal assistant at Mitchell and Mitchell law firm, and she was partial owner of B&D Finishing Company. She helped develop, build, and manage duplexes off Dug Gap Road in Dalton. One of her favorite pastimes was traveling around the country with her husband in their camper. They traveled locally, out West, to Canada, and even to Alaska. Betty also enjoyed gardening, especially her roses. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
The family will be receiving visitors on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Love Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of the McBee family. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.lovefuneralhomega.com.
