Mrs. Thelma Adeline “Abby” Weems, 87, of Dalton, was taken to her heavenly home Monday, April 19, 2010 at her residence, after a brief illness from a stroke.
She was born November 9, 1922, daughter of the late Jim and Jeanette Holland of Borden Springs, Alabama and was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Weems; recently deceased great-grandsons, Adam Walden, Shepherd Scott Kiker and Barrett Elder; daughter, Sue Holcomb; great-granddaughter, Jamie Hobbs; grandson, Johnny Buttram; sisters, Eva Nell Andrews and Mable Piper; and brother, Frank Holland.
Mrs. Weems was a lifelong resident of Alabama and has resided in Georgia the past 8 years, where she was a member of Highland Church of Christ in Dalton.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Billy Hobbs, Diane Meadows and Debbie and Mike Cruse all of Dalton; brothers, Rev. Robert Holland of Lakeland, GA., James and Ed Holland of Cedartown, GA.; sister, Desi Pettyjohn of Centre, AL. and their families; grandchildren, Darlene Brown and Eddie Buttram both of Chattanooga, TN., Greg Kiker of Elizabeth City, NC., Brandon Cruse of Rossville, GA., Keith Cruse of Dalton, Brandy Thomas of Ringgold, GA., Selena Stein, Denise Meadows, Bonnie Williams, Heath Meadows, Shane Meadows and Bobby Jo Meadows all of Hiram, GA. and their families, Wanda Elder and Diane Williams and their families of Dalton; 31 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Weems celebration of life and commitment to her Lord and family ceremony will be Thursday at 11 A.M. in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Ray of Weaver Church of Christ in Weaver, Alabama officiating.
Burial will follow in the Varnell Cemetery with a white dove release and then balloons will be released by her grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Cruse, Heath and Shane Meadows, Blake Elder, Eddie Buttram, Greg Kiker and Keith Cruse.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Wednesday
from 3 to 9 P.M.
