Mr. James Smith Bond, 83, of Dalton, went to be with the Lord Friday, May 28, 2010 at Hamilton Medical Center.
He was the son of the late, O. E. Bond and Minnie Bearden Bond and was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Sue Grubbs.
He was a graduate of Murray County High School and was retired from Liberty National Insurance Company. Smith was a member of the Dalton Elks Lodge and very active in the Kiwanis Club of Dalton. He also served two terms on the Dalton City Council.
His greatest love was his involvement in his church. He was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and did nursing home visits.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Edith Watkins Bond of Dalton; daughter and son-in-law, Tami and Cookie Cook of Dalton; step-grandchildren, Andrew Cook and Leigh Cook Banks; nephew, Hal Grubbs.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 P. M. from Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rhoda Howell, the Rev. Fred Johnson and the Rev. Hoyt Jenkins officiating.
Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Sunday from 5 to 7 P.M.
In lieu of Flowers memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 901 Veterans Dr., Dalton, GA. 30721.
