Ruth Spence

Mrs. Ruth Gwennell Spence, 82, of Gainesville, Fl., and formerly of Dalton died Monday, July 26, 2010, in the North Florida Regional Medical Center, following a long illness.
Ms. Spence was a native of Dalton, Georgia, daughter of the late Henry J. and Lilly Spivey Spence. She was a retired U. S. Navy Commander, having served as a nurse during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. While in Gainesville, she had attended the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville.
Survivors include; Nephews, Ken (Nancy) Underwood, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, and Chris Underwood, of Duluth, Georgia. Her companion and best friend, Connie Jones, of Gainesville, Florida.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at 5:00 P. M., in the Chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd St. Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 P.M. in the Mineral Springs United Methodist Cemetery, Dalton, Georgia.
