Frances Stuman

d. August 24, 2010

Mrs. Frances ‘Fran’ Abbie McCord Stuman, 80, of Dalton, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at Hamilton Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Stuman, Sr.; mother, Eunice Nannie Jones McCord; father, Henry Neal McCord; twin brother, stillborn birth; sister, Myra McCord Robinson; grandparents, Henry and Hetty Jones.
Fran is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Catherine Stuman of Oak Ridge, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Steve Griggs of Dalton; brother-in-law, David Stuman of Rocky Face; special cousin, Joann Lyons of Ringgold; grandchildren, Jonathan Griggs of Dalton, Jennifer and Chris Kelly of Asheville, N.C., and Julie and Adam Powell of Durham, N.C.; future great-grandson (due in September), Colt Louis Powell of Durham, N.C.; nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Stuman was an honor graduate of Murray County High School in 1947, being the first member of her family to ever finish high school. She lived with an uncle and aunt in Chattanooga after graduation. Fran worked in a hosiery mill in Rossville. Later she moved to Dalton to live with cousins and work in a spread house. She met James during this time; they were married in 1948. They were both baptized at the Central Church of Christ in Dalton in 1948. Fran worked as an executive secretary while her children were growing up. She was always involved in their schools by serving as a P.T.A. President, chaperoning trips, and diligently serving as the treasurer of the Dalton High School Catamount Band Club for four years. Fran later became a Volunteer at Hamilton Medical Center where she served for 36 years. Thirty-four of those years she served primarily in the ER department. Fran loved her church family passionately. She served them in humbleness and to the glory of the Lord. All who knew her were immediately blessed by her smile, compassion, humor, and giving spirit.
A celebration of Fran’s ‘home-going’ will be Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at 1:30 P.M. at the Central Church of Christ, 515 N. Tibbs Road, Dalton, Georgia. Special ministers and friends will be leading the celebration.
Burial will follow in the Spring Place Cemetery.
