Lucille West

Mrs. Lucille Gilstrap West, 82 of Rocky Face passed away Tuesday October, 19, 2010.

She was born August 5, 1928 in Walker County, daughter of the late Edward and Johnnie Manning Gilstrap. She retired from the Daytona Florida School System and taught calculus and math. She also taught in the Dalton School System. She received many awards as teacher of the year for her innovative methods of teaching calculus from both school systems. She was a devoted teacher.

She set up 3 scholarship funds at Berry College which helps many students throughout the years. She attended both Baptist and Methodist Churches. She graduated from the Subligna School and Berry College.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jessie West, pharmacist; her sister, Edwina Gilstrap McKnight.

She is survived by one brother Charles Gilstrap; nephew; grand- niece; and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 P.M. from the chapel of Love Funeral Home with Reverend Matt Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Friday at Love Funeral Home from noon til 1 P.M.
