Mrs. Betty J. Whaley Nelson, 74, of Dalton, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Hamilton Medical Center.
She was the daughter of the late, Preston and Ethel Freeland Whaley and was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Whaley Cooper and Lois Whaley Summey; brothers, Grady Whaley and Clint Whaley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Homer and Bonnie Nelson.
Betty began her career in 1958 and retired in 2005 after being with the Whitfield County Clerk of Superior Court for 21 years. She was an active member of the Dalton First Baptist Church.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Homer B. Nelson; son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Jamie Nelson, daughter, Julie Nelson; grandchildren, Hunter Nelson, Brock Nelson and Hadley Nelson all of Dalton;
sister, Buelah Gallent of Dalton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Winfred and Jimmy Whaley, Lenard and Bernice Whaley, Freeman and Lillian Whaley all of Dalton , Ralph and Lorraine Whaley of Cohutta; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Earl and Louise Watson, John and Lillian Shuler, Dan and Shelia McNeese all of Dalton; nieces and nephews also survive.
Services will be Tuesday at 4 P.M. at the Dalton First Baptist Church with Dr. Billy T. Nimmons, Rev. Phillip Cannon officiating and Rev. Larry Flanagan in charge of the music.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 4 P.M. in the atrium of the church and immediately following the service.
Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family request, in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 827, Dalton, Georgia 30722-0827.
