Mr. Dan Herndon Jordan, 86, of Dalton, died Monday, January 15, 2007 at Regency Park.
He was born November 24, 1920 in Hart County, Georgia, son of the late, Lowery and Clara Herndon Jordan. He graduated from Hart County High School and was a 1944 graduate of the University of Georgia; he retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a soil scientist with more than 36 years of service and was a Charter and Honorary member of NARFE (National Association Retired Federal Employees), National Society of Consulting Soil Scientist and
the Georgia Professional Soil Scientists Inc. His passion for gardening and his love of flowers continued long after his retirement.
Dan was a life long Methodist and an active member of the Dalton First United Methodist Church, having served as president of the Fellowship Sunday School class; was a member of the Dalton Civitan Club and was a life member of the Elks.
He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Mauline Jordan Johnson of Hart County and his sister, Polly Anna Jordan.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Elizabeth “Libby” Hardigree Jordan of Dalton; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbi and Vance Hunsucker of Dalton, Jan and Mark Adamson of Alpharetta, Ga.; grandsons, Jordan Hunsucker, Chris Hunsucker, Scott Adams and Daniel Adams; brothers and sisters-in-law, Boyd and Doris Jordan, Doug and Jennie Jordan all of Hart County; nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church with the Dr. Joe Peabody officiating and the Fellowship Sunday School Class serving as honorary pallbearers.
Burial in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Tuesday from 5 to 7 P.M.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 627, Dalton, Ga. 30722-0627 or to one’s favorite charity.
