Charles Lee Fortner, 79, of Dalton passed away at his residence on March 10, 2007.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Edward Lee Fortner and Stella Lankford Fortner; his brother James Fortner; and his special friends James B. Hemphill and Steed Thornton.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Betty Fortner of Dalton; his daughter and son-in-law Pamela and Rob Russell of Atlanta, GA; his son and daughter-in-law Charles Gregory and Geri Fortner of Newnan, GA and their children Jennifer Jay of Dallas, TX, Jason and Gina Fortner of Newnan, GA, and Danielle Fortner of Birmingham, AL; his daughter-in-law Carol Fortner and John Greer, his three brothers: Harold Fortner of Gainesville, GA, William Fortner of Gainesville, GA, and Eddie Fortner of Yuma, AZ; and his sister Carolyn Mills of Woodstock, GA.
Charles was a World War II Air Force veteran stationed in San Antonio, TX. Charles and his family moved to Dalton in 1959. He founded Fortner Machine Shop in 1963, installed poultry processing plants in Puerto Rico and Mexico. Developed, built and still owns with his wife, duplexes off Dug Gap Road in Dalton.
Charles will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Chuck’s favorite pastimes were hunting in Colorado, where he went with his buddies every year for over 25 years; traveling with his wife in their camper locally, and out West, including Alaska and Canada. Fishing with his grandchildren, and sharing his garden with friends were a big passion with Chuck. “If being a good man gets you to heaven he is already there” says his wife Betty.
Memorial services will be held for immediate family on Friday.
The family will be receiving visitors on Thursday, March 15, 2007 from 5pm to 8pm at Love Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.lovefuneralhomega.com. Love Funeral Home, 1402 N. Thornton Ave. Dalton is in charge of arrangements.
