Albert Sidney Johnston Landers, Jr., 92, of Dalton passed away March 29, 2021, peacefully in his sleep at his home. Also preceding him in death was his brother, James Edward (Nell) Landers of Athens, Georgia, sister, Virginia Dare Landers who died in childhood, half brother, Grady Landers, and half sister, Ann (Bill) Henderson, all of Trion.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Bette Cooper Landers; children, Carl Sidney Landers and John Martin (Stephanie) Landers; grandchildren, Catherine Landers, Zachary Landers, and Bradley Landers; niece, Lisa Landers (Gerry) Taylor; and nephew, Steve Landers.

The family will have a private graveside service at West Hill Cemetery with Reverend Eric Geil officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to ChristChurch Presbyterian, 510 S. Tibbs Road, Dalton, GA 30720.

Albert was born in Chattooga County in Northwest Georgia, in the town of Trion. He attended school in Trion. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Navy in the Pacific. After discharge from the US Navy, he attended Berry College in Rome, Georgia while working for Riegel Textiles in Trion. He studied business and graduated with a degree in Accounting. While working for Riegel he trained and qualified for work on the company’s first IBM electric accounting machine, launching him into a long career in computers and data processing.

Albert and Bette were married December 25, 1949, and enjoyed more than 71 years of marriage until his death. He was a devoted husband to Bette, and devoted father and grandfather to their sons and their grandchildren.

Albert’s passion was the game of golf. This passion began when he started playing the game at 12 years old, and continued strong for the next 80 years.

Albert retired from paid work in August of 1995, from Aladdin Mills in Dalton, Georgia. When he retired he was a Vice President and was in charge of the company’s information systems. He extended his career for a short time as a paid consultant, but again retired, then settled into a routine of golf, yardwork, traveling with Bette, and enjoying their children and grandchildren.

His sons credit him with being a loving father, a teacher, a coach, a devoted supporter, and an inspiration to them to aim high and work hard to achieve life goals. He served the Lord Jesus Christ for many years as a churchman in various places where the family lived. Later in life he found a renewed purpose and passion for the things of the Lord, and an appreciation for the Gospel through Bible study and regular church attendance in corporate worship.

His family will miss all about him - his wit, his wisdom, his dogged perseverance, his charm, his love of his family, his smile, his kidding around, his unwavering support, as well as his genuine care for people. When you were with him you knew his love and care for you was without reservations, and was as deep as the ocean. Already he is greatly missed.
