Ann W. Wright

Leaving behind a strong legacy of faith and family, Ann Williams Wright of Dalton went to be with her Lord Jesus on Wednesday, October 2, 2019.

Ann was born in Aragon, Georgia, on April 7, 1942, the first daughter of Horace and Ethel Williams.  She grew up in Polk County, Georgia on a dairy farm. She graduated from Rockmart High School and The University of Georgia, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in home economics and a Master’s degree in textiles. She began working at the age of 20 at Cedartown High School, teaching home economics.  She later began working with the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service as a Home Economist. After moving to Dalton, Ann taught at Eastbrook High School for a number of years. Ann attended Rockbridge Community Church in Dalton.

Ann married Lamar Wright on December 10, 1965.  Having first met at a summer camp at a young age, she will forever remain the love of his life. Ann and Lamar moved to Dalton the year they married, where, along with raising a family, she was active in multiple bible studies, served on the boards of Georgia Boys Group Home, Hamilton Healthcare Foundation, and United Way of Northwest Georgia. Due to a strong background in education, Ann was also a volunteer in public schools and an advocate for young people.  Ann held a livelong belief in the power of education to change lives.  The C. Lamar and Ann Wright School of Business at Dalton State College was named in 2016, in recognition of Ann and Lamar’s support of the college.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Ethel Williams, and her brother, Don Williams.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 53 years, Lamar Wright, beloved sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Aquila Wright of Dalton and Bucky and Kristie Wright of Marietta, five grandchildren, Jackson and Will Wright of Dalton and Alexis, Davis and Annaleigh Wright of Marietta, brother Ray Williams and his wife Carol, brother Paul Williams, sister, Linda Williams, sister-in-law, Linda P. Williams, brother-in-law Richard Wright and his wife Claudia, nieces and nephews, and countless treasured friends.

Ann devoted her life to serving her Lord and being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and lifelong friend. Her charitable spirit and presence of grace guided her every step. She will be deeply missed.

We would like to thank the staff of Erlanger Hospital for their excellent care and our dear friends and family for the multitude of prayers on Ann’s behalf.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 6 ^th from 1pm – 4pm in the atrium of Dalton First United Methodist Church.  A celebration of life service will immediately follow at 4pm in the sanctuary of Dalton First United Methodist Church.
