Betty Jean Burnette Eller

April 1, 1938 — June 12, 2021

Mrs. Betty Jean Burnette Eller, 83, of Dalton, passed away Saturday, June 12 th at Emory Hospital.

She is the daughter of the late Effie Lou Gray Burnette and Fate Edward Burnette and was preceded in death by her Sister Shirley Burnette Hair, and brother, Clinton Edward Burnette.

She is survived by her husband Edward K Eller, daughter and son-in-law Cindie and Chet Grisso of La Habra Heights, CA, daughter and son-in-law Tammy and Randy Poplin of Dalton, GA, and son and daughter-in-law, Edd and Ginnie Eller of La Habra Heights, CA; grandchildren Catri Grisso Barba (Paul) of Lewisburg, PA; Cyla Grisso Fisk (Ryan) of San Marino, CA; Molly Poplin of Dalton, GA and Emily Poplin Elliott (Jacob) of Dalton, GA; Chloe, Savannah and Evan Eller of La Habra Heights, CA; very special great-grandchildren Elyse Barba, Claire Fisk and Oliver Elliott.  She is also survived by her sisters Mattie Sue Callahan of Jasper, GA; Maribelle Burnette Richardson of Tunnel Hill, GA; and James Douglas (Pat) Burnette of Dalton, GA. Also many special nieces and nephews survive.

Betty loved her church, First Baptist Church of Dalton.  The spiritual gifts and passions that she shared with the Church included teaching Children’s Sunday School and volunteering in the Church Library.  She never missed an opportunity to give attention to a passing baby.  From dance recitals, concerts, musicals and graduations, Betty devoted as much time as she could to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, trying to attend as many of their life events as possible.

Betty was a preschool teacher at First Baptist as well as the Educational Secretary.  She also worked for the Probate Court and was secretary to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s department, from which she retired from after 17 years.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 15 th from 1:00 – 3:00 in the Church Atrium, with the funeral service being at 3:00 in the First Baptist Church Sanctuary with the Reverend Jonathan Barlow and Reverend Phillip Cannon officiating.  Pallbearers will be Betty’s nephews:  Ronnie Burnette, Scott Burnette, Jason Burnette, Patrick Richardson, Andy Burnette, Marty Callahan.
